SHEVINGTON SHARKS UNDER 8'S  28 - 40  INCE ROSE BRIDGE U8's - 02 Dec 2007.

Good game from both sides as they battled this one out on a cold and rainy Sunday morning with Bridge coming out on top.

The Sharks give it everything they had but they couldn't handle the speed the Bridge team had. Bridge turned up with 8 players so Philip Jones from Shevington played for them and scored 2 tries and tackled well which didn't help the Sharks as they couldn't score early on and ended up playing catch up rugby as Bridge piled on the tries. But the attitude of the players for the Sharks was excellent especially new guys Liam Hutchins, Bradley Clarke, Miles Ogden, and Coaches Award winner Daniel Cahill who had a fine game.

The opposition failed to handle Man Of The Match and Top Tackler Jack Welsby as he ripped through them every time he got the ball using his quality sidestep. Welsby collected a magnificent Hat trick of tries. Hutchins scored his first try for the Sharks today. Cameron Birkett got one. Evan Aylward-Barton scored a Good try from close range. And a good powerful run by Joe Horrobin saw him break through and score. But in the end it was Bridge's day as Shevington couldn't stop them from scoring. But it was an excellent effort by the Sharks and probably deserved more than what they got out of this game.

Shevington Sharks U8's 8 - Latchford Albions Unicorns U8's 20 - 25th Nov 2007.

Shevington travelled to Warrington to face Latchford Albion Unicorns at Victoria Park.

The Sharks turned up with a very impressive 13 man squad with full debuts for Miles Ogden, Daniel Cahill and Bradley Clarke which meant The Sharks had 4 sets of fresh legs entering the frame throughout the match.

A one minutes applause paid tribute to The Great Mike Gregory who had died a week early after a long battle against a form of motor neurone disease before game for his commitment to the game we love.

The Sharks were facing an inform Latcford outfit who had several big players but this didnt effect the Sharks who tackled bravely throughout the match.

Latchford opened the scoring early on but The Sharks heads didn't go down and showed courage and determination to take it to there large opponent's and where held up twice on the Latchford line once from an inform Jack Welsby and a side stepping run from Jak Price who received the Spectators Award for his overall never say die attitude. Towards the end of the first half the Latchford players started to tire and Man of the Match Sam Favell made them pay with a strong run down the right hand side brushing off Latchford defenders to score in the corner on the stroke of half time.

The Sharks took the score on half time into the second half but mistakes where made by the Sharks surrendering possession from running into touch and some loose carries which Latchford capitalised on with 3 unanswered trys early in the second half. The Sharks refused to give up with big efforts from all the team who continued to tackle the hearts out with Bradley Clarke being rewarded with the Mars Bar for being Top Tackler on 11 tackles with Welsby a close second with 10.

The Sharks efforts were rewarded with a second try from Favell who brushed off Latchfords strong defenders to score in the right hand corner. This was the result of hard yards made by Coaches Award Winner Clarke and strong runs from Welsby, Cameron Birkett and James Crank who made the yards to setup Favell's second try.

Towards the end of the game the size difference told and Latchford notched a further score at the end to finish any Sharks comeback hopes and the game finished Shevington Sharks 8 Latchford Albion Unicorns 20.

SHEVINGTON SHARKS U8's 32 - CHORLEY PANTHERS U8's 20 - 11th Nov 2007.

The Sharks played well and overcame a very big and tough Chorley Panthers outfit. The Sharks scored first with Spectators Award Winner Sam Favell after some good yards up field from Joe Horrobin who keeps getting better every week, and James Crank. The Sharks then conceded but hit back straight away when Man Of The Match Cameron Birkett went through near the corner and then cut back in to go under the posts. Jack Welsby scored next to stretch the lead and Welsby scored again when he scooted from acting half spinning through and planting the ball down with three men on him. Birkett finished off the half with a good try scoring near to the posts.

In the second half The Sharks scored first again with Sam Favell powering through the middle brushing off defenders left and right. Coaches Award winner Liam Hutchins had a good debut game making some crucial tackles and some good runs. Philip Jones scored a fantastic try next when he combined pace with a great sidestep which cut the Panthers defence in half and he sprinted through nobody near him to go under the posts. Crank made half a break and backing him up was Birkett who he slipped the ball to, Birkett then ran three quarters of the field to slide in, in the corner to finish off the scoring and the Sharks came away with another good win away from home.

SHEVINGTON SHARKS U8's 12 - INCE ROSE BRIDGE U8's 16 - 4th Nov 2007.

A good match between to strong sides with Rose Bridge just coming out on top. The Sharks we're trailing at half time 8 - 4 after their only try from Spectators Award Winner Cameron Birkett who also had one disallowed.

The Sharks we're very unlucky in the second half as they got very close to scoring a few times but the Rose Bridge defence was strong and very aggressive. Some good running from Joe Horrobin which earned him the coaches award, and some excellent defence from Man Of The Match Jack Welsby who got on the score sheet. Birkett scored a second, going full length of the field to finish off the Sharks scoring, but it wasn't enough as Rose Bridge scored near the end to win the game.

SHEVINGTON SHARKS U8's 36 - WIDNES MOORFIELD U8's 12 - 28th Oct 2007.

On a very cold foggy day the Sharks put in an impressive performance against a very big Widnes side. The Sharks started well when Cameron Birkett scored his first of his six tries side stepping through the defence and scoring in the corner. Some great defence from Top Tackler Jack Welsby and Spectators Award Winner James Crank held out the Widnes defence and the Sharks scored again after good running from Welsby and he passed to Sam Favell who then passed to Evan Aylward-Barton who then scored in the corner. Birkett was the next scorer who scored another good try in the corner. Coaches Award Winner Sam Favell ran hard and his effort earned him his first try of the season to make the half time score 16 - 4.

Widnes started the second half well scoring to quick tries. and some good defence from Adam Parkes and Birkett to hold a player up over the line. Aylward-Barton took the ball in and slipped a pass to Birkett for him to complete his Hat-trick. Birkett scored again from Dummy Half and again from another offload from Welsby. Joe Horrobin was the next to get on the score sheet and his hard tackling helped him earn the Man Of The Match Award. Birkett finished the game off in style with another classy try to make the score 36 - 12.

SHEVINGTON SHARKS U8'S 28  OLDHAM ST ANNES U8'S 4 - 21st Oct 2007.

Shevington Sharks Under 8's travelled to Oldham for the second week in a row but on this occasion to face Oldham St Annes and hopefully to improve on last weeks result. The team had trained well through the week and was looking forward to the game.

The game didnt start the way the Sharks were hoping with Oldham St Annes opening the scoring with the Sharks having to defend two sets of six on there own line, the pressure told and Oldham scored the first try. The Sharks striked back straight away, through Jak Price on the last tackle from dummy half bulldozed his way over from close range after strong runs from Sam Favell and Joe Horrobin. From then the Sharks didnt look back, the very next set the Sharks took the lead with a side stepping run from coaches award winner James Crank who stretched over one handed to score. The Sharks started to take control of the game and pushed further ahead with a strong powerful run from Joe Horrobin who raced over from 15 metres in the corner brushing off St Annes defenders. This lead was taken into half time where it was 12 - 4.

After the break the Sharks with the first set of six after the break scored through Philip Jones with a strong run straight through the heart of the St Annes defence to make it 16-4. The Sharks defence was very strong and organised throughtout with bone crunching tackles from Top Tackler Jack Welsby, James Crank, Cameron Birkett and Man of the Match Adam Parks whos strong defensive display and hard straight running won him the MOM award. The Sharks increased the lead with a fantastic side stepping run from Spectators Award Jack Welsby who went in at the corner and the win was completed with two tries from Cameron Birkett, one with a strong side stepping run and his second which he side stepped his way through the entire St Annes defence for the try of the match.

SHEVINGTON SHARKS UNDER 8'S 12  SADDLEWORTH RANGERS U8's 12 - 14th Oct 2007.

Great defensive effort from both sides. It showed as there was only one try in the first half which was scored by Spectators Award Winner Joe Horrobin for the Sharks, when he charged through. Top Tackler Jack Welsby tackled well and very hard, putting some big hits in with Cameron Birkett.

In the second half it started off all Saddleworth as they scored two quick tries, it seemed like the Sharks could not break there defence down and Saddleworth scored another and with only a few minutes to go it looked like Shevington we're down and out. But with nothing to lose at this point the Sharks scored off the next set when Horrobin got his second but they needed the ball back and with seconds to go Saddleworth had the ball. A turnover on half way after some good tackling from Coaches Award Winner Jak Price and Man Of The Match James Crank meant Shevington still had time and it paid off when Crank went in powering through the middle, to bring the Sharks level and maintain there unbeaten run of now four matches.

SHEVINGTON SHARKS UNDER 8'S 38 - WATERHEAD UNDER8'S 8 - 7th Oct 2007.

The sharks made it three from three in a very aggressive and rough match. But it didn't start as planned when Waterhead scored first, but the sharks hit back straight away with Top Tackler Cameron Birkett who scored the first of his SIX Tries. Waterhead scored next and it looked like it was gonna be an even game. But the Sharks decided to step it up a level and Man of The Match Philip Jones got the first of his two good tries breaking through and scoring in the corner. Shevy tackled hard and got the ball back and Birkett got his second after Adam Parkes slipped the ball to him. Spectators Award Winner Adam Bimson got his first Sharks try shortly after and debutant Coaches Award Winner Evan Aylward-Barton scored after breaking through near his own line to go the length of the field untouched. Birkett then scored again to complete a good hat-trick to leave the Half Time score at 24 - 8.

The Sharks defended excellent in the second half and did not concede a try, and attacked well with Birkett going over again to make it four. Jak Price was the next to score when he picked up a loose ball to go over. Adam Parkes got his first try for the club also when he barged through from close range. Jones then got his second with a good sidestep splitting the defence in half. Some great tackling from Jack Welsby and Jones held Waterhead out who would not give up. Some good running from Sam Favell making some hard yards allowed Birkett to get his fifth and a great individual effort from Birkett skipping through the defence with his lethal sidestep to score his sixth.

SHEVINGTON SHARKS U8'S 20 WIGAN ST PATS U8'S 12 - 30th Sept 2007.

What a fantastic game of Rugby League which was played with superb commitment and skill from both sides. The Sharks started well when Captain for the day and top tackler Jack Welsby scored the first try. Excellent defence from the Sharks with debutant and Coaches Award winner Adam Parkes and Matthew Skellon tackling well. Joe Horrobin and Spectators Award winner Sam Favell ran well for Shevington, and a break from James Crank led to Cameron Birkett scoring his first of four tries in the corner to leave the half time score at 4 - 8 to the Sharks.

It was the Sharks who scored first in the second half Jak Price made a half break and slipped the ball to Birkett for his second. Birkett added two more tries.

Coach Howard Moffatt was delighted with the win " That was a really good St Pats team and they put us under a lot of pressure, but the lads worked very hard and they deserved their victory.

SHEVINGTON SHARKS U8'S 30 - LEYLAND WARRIORS U8'S 4 - 23nd Sept 2007

A great start to the season for the Sharks with a good win against a bigger Leyland side. Sam Favell got the home side off to a good start with a strong run from half way to score the first try. Leyland hit back almost straight away which seemed to spur the Sharks on. James Crank broke away and scored shortly after to put the Sharks ahead.

Favell got his second try which was almost a repeat of his first try. Coaches Award winner and Debutant Joe Horrobin thought he'd scored after a bursting run through the middle but the ref claimed that he lost control of it over the line. Also on his debut was Spectators Award winner Matthew Skellon who came close to scoring twice but was deemed to have knocked on over the line both times. Cameron Birkett scored in the corner to leave the score 16 - 4 at half time.

The sharks second half defence was excellent with Man of the Match winner Jack Welsby leading the way with some superb low tackles finishing well clear in the tackle count and Leyland just could not break through this solid defence. Birkett got the next two which where both length of the field tries to complete a fantastic hat-trick. A loose ball saw Philip Jones pick the ball up and run the remainder of the field to score. But Shevington wasn't finished there after a barnstorming run from the skipper for the day Jak Price bulldozing through the middle, Birkett was able to finish the game off with his fourth try.
