SHEVINGTON SHARKS U13s 24 - ST. PATS U13s 26 - 27th Jan 2008.
The Sharks’ lack of match time showed against their Premier League rivals who went into the half time break 16 – 4 to the good.
A rejuvenated Shevington side took the field for the second half and despite conceding an early try, hit back with a quick brace of tries from Arron Lewczenko. St. Pats managed to score again in the corner but this was quickly cancelled out by another try from Lewczenko. Shevington, now playing with a lot more passion took the game to the opposition and when Luke Farrow converted his own try, the Sharks closed the deficit to only two points.
The Sharks pushed hard in the final five minutes but were unable to snatch the game. Coach Dave Robinson commented, “We were very slow to start and whilst the second half showed what we are capable of, we had given ourselves a big mountain to climb”.
Arron Lewczenko’s four try tally earned him the Man of the Match, Luke Farrow took the Spectator’s Award and Captain Jamie Worthington took the Coach’s Award for an excellent all round performance.
SHEVINGTON SHARKS U13’S 28 THATTO HEATH U13’S 14 - 11th Nov 2007.
This was a superb all round team display from the Sharks to keep up their recent run of good results
Joint Man of the match winners Jamie Worthington and Arron Lewczenko were in outstanding form with Lewczenko going over for four tries. The other try scorer was the impressive Matthew Berry with Tom Preston converting four tries.
Spectaors award winner was Tyler Spence with Connor Harnedy picking up the Coaches award.
OLDHAM ST ANNES U13'S 30 SHEVINGTON SHARKS U13'S 0 - 14th Oct 2007.
The scoreline certainly does not reflect the commitment and hard work the Sharks put into this game, which even drew praise from the opposition coaches.
Due to injuries and other commitments the Sharks only travelled with 13 players, but they never threw in the towel, and Coach Dave Robinson was very proud after the game and duly awarded the whole team the Coaches award.
Matthew Berry never took a backward step for the Sharks and was a worthy Man of the match winner, whilst Luke Farrow was superb throughout and picked up the Spectators award.
SHEVINGTON SHARKS U13'S 40 - ECCLES AND SALFORD U13'S 0 - 7th Oct 2007.
The Sharks progressed through to the next round of the Lancashire Cup with this superb victory.
Joint Man of the match winners and try scorers Luke Farrow [1] and Adam Kay [2] led the way for the Sharks and they were well supported by the impressive Joe Butt who picked up the Coaches award. Arron Lewczenko was again in sparkling form going over for four tries, with Tom Preston kicking 6 conversions. Tyler Spence was awarded the Spectators award for a excellent all round game.
SHEVINGTON SHARKS U13'S 50 - WIGAN ST CUTHBERTS U13'S 8 - 30th Sept 2007.
An excellent all round performance from ALL players. Some hard work in training and the disappointment of a couple of previous results over the past few weeks appears to be paying off.
Key players in Lewczenko, Worthington, Farrow, Kay, Berry and Spence setting the platform and pace for a well deserved first half lead of 0 – 36. With the start of the second half came a little panic, but the players, to their credit, played some good rugby to shrug off some of the mistakes/errors that allowed St.Cuthbert’s to breach the defence. Joseph Bott making an excellent debut for Shevington but generally ALL players were worthy of praise.

SHEVINGTON SHARKS U13'S 22 - THATTO HEATH U13'S 30 - 23nd Sept 2007
As per the previous week, the conditions at John Rigby College were perfect for this first home game of the new season with the Shevington Sharks U13’s hosting Thatto Heath from St Helens.
Shevington got off to the perfect start with virtually the first set of 6. Some quick hands from right to left found Lewczenko wide who then ran 40m to score the opening try. Preston adding the extras.
Thatto found some reply but the Shevington defence stayed firm for the time being. After a bright 10 minute spell from Thatto, Lewczenko was again put through a gap on the right which resulted in 2nd Shevington try. Preston adding the extras.
As per the previous week, Shevington then took the foot of the gas and Thatto’s forwards started to take control. Thatto’s first try came from a penalty for ball striping and the 2nd from back to back penalties, off side and not standing square.
Just before the break Thatto added a 3rd. Quick passing out wide to the right found the Shevington defence short on numbers and the result took Thatto to a 12 – 18 lead at the half way stage.
Shevington took up some good the play in the second half with Kay and Farrow now starting to cut up the Thatto defence through the middle, but their efforts were soon lost when the final passes went to ground, giving possession back to Thatto.
However, Shevington soon crossed again, this time Lewczenko taking a short pass from Kay and in for his 2nd hat trick in 2 games. Preston from out wide hitting the cross bar and no extras 16 – 18.
Shevington now had their tails up and 5 minutes later Farrow managed to scoot his way over the line for an excellent solo effort giving the lead back to the home side. 22- 18.
With 10 minutes left on the clock, the game got a little out of hand which could have been avoided if there had been some consistency and control form the official in charge. However both teams were reduced to 12 men and to their credit, the Shevington team picked up their efforts and took the game too Thatto Heath.
Unfortunately with 5 minutes left and now 2 players in Worthington and Lewczenko off the pitch, the big Thatto forwards helped their team to 2 more tries before the final whistle. 22- 30
The score line did not really reflect the excellent efforts from the Shevington team in the last 15 minutes. Perhaps some better luck next week.
Man of the Match – Adam Kay
Coaches Award – Jamie Worthington
Spectators Award - Arron Lewczenko
Shevington Sharks U13's 18 v Chorley Panthers U13's 18 - 17th Sept 2007
First game of the new season took the Shevington U-13’s down the road to the home of Chorley Panthers. Shevington knew that this would be a tough game against a team that had some big forwards.
The game started well for the Sharks as good forward work from the pack set the platform for the half backs to create space out on the wings and the result was Arron Lewczenko breaking free to score the Sharks first try after 10 minutes. Tom Preston adding the extras.
Shevy continued to work hard and 10 minutes later the same platform the same result as Lewczenko again took on the Chorley defence to run in his 2nd try of the match. Preston again adding the extras Chorley fought back well and at the start of the second half they picked up their game and came back at Shevington stronger than the first.
The Sharks started to panic and let the Panthers No 13 boss the game for them and the result was 2 quick tries mid way through the second half. This added more pressure to the Sharks defensive line that was now struggling to cope with the Panthers pace.
Lewczenko added his 3rd try of the game with another length of the field run with Preston kicking the extras. This appeared to ease the pressure slightly, but having led 12 – 0 at the break the Sharks just needed to settle themselves to take the points, but the defence was getting tired and eventually Chorley struck back with less than 3 minutes left on the clock to level the game.
Certainly some work to do on the defence for the Sharks but on the whole an excellent performance from ALL the Sharks and a fair result. A good entertaining game for the start of the season. Well played Chorley.
Man of the Match – Arron Lewczenko
Coaches Award – Matthew Berry
