SHEVINGTON SHARKS 17 BLACKBROOK 4 - 5th April 2008.
This was a great victory by Shevington facing a very strong and experienced Blackbrook outfit
The Sharks started well and put the Blackbrook line under pressure but were only rewarded with 2 Jonny Dunn penalties. The pressure finally paid off when after good work from Matt White and Ian Parkinson it was Joe Gallagher who was on hand to score the try to give Shevington a 8-0 lead. Back came Blackbrook but they were finding it hard to break the Sharks line and it took a cross field kick for the winger to collect and score in the corner to leave the half time score at 8-4
The second period was a very tight affair with defences from both teams on top, but a penalty and drop goal from Danny Pike put Shevington in front and with only 2 mins remaining Nick Rimmer sliced through the defence and raced 60 meters to score, Pike converted for a 17-4 victory
Coach Dave Parkinson was pleased with the performance “That was a very strong Blackbrook outfit, but the lads certainly dug deep and worked hard, they thoroughly deserved the victory"

Coach Shaun Boylan was philosophical in defeat “We are a very young team, and we have certainly improved over the season but there is still a lot of improvement left in the team and individuals”

Defences were on top for most of the half with Mike Norton, Danny Owens and Matt White prominent for the Sharks. Just before the half time break Owen did a neat kick over the Thatto Heath defence, regathered the ball and found Ian Parkinson, he then drew the full back and passed to Owen once again for him to score under the sticks for a converted try and a 12-0 half time lead
Thatto Heath started the second half strongly and scored an unconverted try in the corner, Owen replied with a penalty and then neat play from, debutant, Danny Pike allowed Ian Parkinson to score a converted try under the posts. Thatto Heath scored a late consolation try to leave the full time score at 20-16.
Coach Dave Parkinson was pleased with the display “ Thatto Heath’s first team did not play and so to help the second team avoid relegation they played quite a few first team players, but the lads played strongly and in my opininon the score line makes the game look a little closer than it actually was”.

Haresfinch did then rally and replied with 2 tries but then the impressive Matt White went over for 2 tries and the Sharks scoring was completed with Jonny Dunn scoring wide out.
Coach Paul Owens was pleased with the performance “Apart from a 10 min period in the second half we controlled the game and that was pleasing, we did not try any fancy rugby we just stuck to the game plan and it paid dividends we just need to build on this for the rest of the season”
SHEVINGTON SHARKS A 12 WIGAN ST CUTHBERTS A 17 - 16th Feb 2008.
This was certainly a closely fought local derby with the final result in doubt until the final whistle.
Andrew Higham and Geoff Whittle were in good form for the Sharks, causing the St Cuthbert’s defence problems and it was after a good break from Higham that it led to the first try when Man of the match, John Baybutt went over. The other try scorer for the Sharks was Michael Kotyniewiecz on his debut for the club. David Mitchinson converted both tries, one being a great effort from the touchline.

SHEVINGTON SHARKS 0 SPRING VIEW 18 - 2nd Feb 2008.
Shevington went out of the Challenge Cup with this loss to local rivals Spring View.
It was a game that the Sharks never got going in and Spring View thoroughly deserved their victory.
One of the plus points for Shevington was John Baybutt who was making his first team debut for the Sharks and gave an excellent performance both in attack and defence.
Shevington conceded two early tries and then defence was on top from both sides for the vast majority of the game, Spring View made the game safe with a third try in the closing stages of the match.
Coach Dave Parkinson had no complaints with the final result “I am not too sure what is wrong with us at the moment, we seem a little flat and our performances have been well below standard. Full marks to Spring View though they played very well and good luck to them for the remainder of the competition”
SHEVINGTON SHARKS 12 - ALBERT PARK 21 - 26th Jan 2008.
Albert Park took an early lead in this fixture with a converted try but the Sharks soon responded with two quality tries from Matt White. Albert Park came back with a converted try and just before the break kicked 2 penalties to give them a 16-12 lead.
The second half started with Albert Park on the attack but Shevington’s defence was up to the task being well lead by Mike Norton, Ian Parkinson and the score remained the same until the 77th min when Albert Park dropped a goal. In the 80th min and with the Sharks needing a converted try and being deep in their own half they attempted a kick down field but it was charged down and Albert Park scored the final try of the game.
Coach Dave Parkinson was obviously disappointed with the result “ The effort was there and in the second half Albert Park put us under a lot of pressure but the defence held firm We just need to improve in a few areas and we will be working hard on that in training this week”
SHEVINGTON SHARKS A 18 IRLAM HORNETS 29 - 12 Jan 2008.

Albert Park eventually took this keenly contested game in the last 5 mins when the winger swooped on a loose ball to run the full length of the field for the winning try.
Albert Park opened the scoring after 20 mins when they scored a try under the posts for a 6-0 lead, but just before the interval the Sharks scored a great try when after great work from Chris Dunn, Joe Gallagher it was Alan White who was on hand to score and leave the half time score at 6-4.
In the second half territorially it was all Shevington with Ian Parkinson scoring wide out after good work from Matt White and Danny Owens drop goal put them 9-6 in front until the last 5 mins when Albert Park scored the winning try.
Coach Dave Parkinson was bitterly disappointed “ In the second half we totally dominated the game, but good defence from Albert Park kept us out and the length of the field winning try was a real kick in the teeth for the lads”
SHEVINGTON SHARKS A 6 WIGAN ST CUTHBERTS A 28 - 17th Nov 2007.
It was only in the second half that St Cuthbert’s pulled away from the Sharks in this keenly contested local derby.

In the second half the experience of Latchford came through and the Sharks struggled to keep them at bay.
John Barrington was really pleased with the effort of the lads “ They all did superb and it was a great effort, it was a very young team with little experience but you could not fault the effort of all the lads"

The Sharks soon added to their score in the second period when Ian Parkinson scored under the sticks. Shevington then added tries from Johnny Dunn, Mike Owens, Chris Dunn, Andrew Moss and Melling to complete a comfortable victory.
Coach Dave Parkinson was pleased with the victory “ Full marks to Blackpool for turning up, but they are struggling at the moment and the game lacked any intensity whatsoever. The lads knew the game was won within the first 20 mins and it was then very difficult for the players to keep to the game plan”
SHEVINGTON SHARKS 14 THATTO HEATH 0 - 20th Oct 2007.
This was a game dominated by defences, with neither team giving an inch.
Shevington started well and after only 8 mins they registered their first try when after a great break from Chris Dunn he passed to Simon Atherton for him to score close to the sticks. Johnny Dunn kicked the conversion. The game at this point was end to end but it was the defence from the Sharks that deserves a special mention with Ian Parkinson, Mark Ward, Craig Hogan and Alan White all making telling contributions. With 10 mins left in the first half Johnny Dunn kicked a penalty to leave the half time score at 8-0
The second half started with Thatto Heath putting the Shevington defence under immense pressure but some great last ditch defending from Nick Rimmer, Matt White and Atherton kept their line intact and it was Atherton who was on hand to intercept a wayward pass on his own line and go the full length of the field to score the decisive try, Chris Dunn added the conversion for the final score of the day. The Sharks did go close again late in the game after great work from Man of the match, John Barrington who got them close to the Thatto line.
Club spokesman Steve Dillon was delighted with the result " The effort the lads put into their defence today was outstanding, and for that alone they deserved the victory, but it was also their discipline which helped secure the victory" he added " we just need to take this performance into our next game and work hard in training during the week".
SHEVINGTON SHARKS A 18 LATCHFORD A 0 - 20th Oct 2007.
Opponents Latchford A were unable to raise a team to leave the Sharks second team kicking their heels.
Coach Shaun Boylan was frustrated " The numbers we are getting down for the Open Age at the moment is fantastic, we had over 50 lads down on Thurs and to make sure we keep them we need to be playing regularly and thats what makes today frustrating"
SHEVINGTON SHARKS 16 - BLACKBROOK 18 - 7th Oct 2007.
The Sharks pressed the self destruct button once again this season, leading 14-0 at half time it was Blackbrook who took the second half and with it the game.
Shevington started well with Matt White and Craig Hogan taking the ball up strongly and creating gaps in the Blackbrook defence. The Sharks soon took a deserved lead when Joe Gallagher burst the defensive line to score, Johnny Dunn added the conversion and then soon after added a penalty. Shevington were creating the chances and eventually got their second try when a great pass from Ian Parkinson found Gallagher once more for him to score the try, Dunn added the conversion to give Shevington a 14-0 half time lead.
Blackbrook started the second half strongly and soon scored a unconverted try, Dunn added a penalty for the Sharks but then a succession of penalties by Shevington kept giving the ball back to Blackbrook, and the possession eventually told. They pulled it back to 16-16 and then in the dying minutes kicked two drop goals to secure the game.
Coach Dave Parkinson was naturally disappointed " The first half was nearly faultless by the lads, but then we turn in a performance like that in the second half. No team will win a game if they continually keep giving the opposition the ball like we did today in the second half "
SHEVINGTON SHARKS A 32 - RYLANDS A 14 - 7th Oct 2007.
Great second half performance from the Sharks, trailing 14-12 at the break they stormed back with 20 unanswered points in the second period.
David Mitchinson had a outstanding game for the Sharks taking the Man of the match award and scoring a first half hat-trick. He was pushed all the way by Scott Lindley who also added a try. Other try scorers for the Sharks were Craig Johnson, Andy Baker and making his return to action after a lengthy injury lay off, Martin Adderley who went over for the final try of the game.
Coach Shaun Boylan was really pleased with the performance " We have a big squad to choose from, and the lads all know they are playing for their jerseys and the second half performance was very good"
SHEVINGTON SHARKS 28 LANGWORTHY REDS 10 - 29th Sept 2007.
The Sharks got off to the worst possible start when after only 5 mins Langworthy opened the scoring with a unconverted try. Shevington were finding it hard to break down the Reds defence but eventually a good break from Joe Gallagher led to Neil Melling scoring in the corner, Johnny Dunn added the conversion. The Sharks were pressurising the Reds defence and when their full back fumbled a high ball from Andrew Moss it was Ian Parkinson who was on hand to score at the side of the sticks, Dunn converted for a 12-4 half time lead.
Shevington started well in the second period with Parkinson going over again, and then shortly after Man of the match, Alan White going the full length of the field for a try. Dunn converted both tries. Langworthy did put pressure on the Shevington line but the defence held firm, and when after a good break from Matt White it was Chris Dunn who powered over for the final Sharks try. Langworthy eventually did get a consolation try in the final minute to leave the score at 28-10
SHEVINGTON SHARKS A 38 WIDNES ST MARIES A 12 - 29th Sept 2007.

Mitchinson scored a hat-trick for the Sharks and also kicked 4 conversions and a penalty. Other try scorers were Danny Lythgoe and a good solo effort from Barry Brown. Coach Sean Boylan was delighted with the win " It was a great effort from all the lads today in a good team display although there were one or two fine individual performances as well"
SHEVINGTON SHARKS 22 - ULVERSTON 31- 22nd Sept 2007
This was a very disappointing result for the Sharks, especially when at half time they held a 22-4 lead.
Shevington started strongly with Alan White going under the posts, Chris Dunn added the extras. Phil Mallalieu was next on the score sheet when from a tap penalty he tore through the opposition defence for a unconverted try. Ulverston did score a try but the Sharks replied with a Darren Wooding try and then Alan White added a second after good work from Scott Whittle, which was converted by Johnny Dunn, who then added a penalty right on half time.
The second half performance was well below par, and they felt very frustrated with the referee disallowing two tries from the Sharks.
Coach Dave Parkinson " I am not going to make excuses for the lads, they need to learn to accept decisions that do not go your way, but on the whole they kept their discipline in very trying circumstances"
SHEVINGTON SHARKS A 6 - LEYLAND WARRIORS 36 - 22nd Sept 2007
The scoreline certainly does not do justice to the effort from the Sharks in this encounter, they were only 12-6 down at the break and it took three late tries to eventually see of the Sharks.
Man of the match, Craig Johnson was in outstanding form and he was well supported by new signings Chris Barton and Tony Woodcock.
Andy Baker was a constant thorn in the side of the Leyland outfit along with Rob Dunn, Pat Galvin and Dave Baker
SHEVINGTON SHARKS 14 - CLOCK FACE 22 - 8th Sept 2007.
The Sharks conspired to lose this game in the last 90 secs of the match, conceding 2 late tries.
Shevington started well and after good work from Phil Mallalieu and Mark Ward it was Ian Parkinson who was on hand to score close to the posts, Chris Dunn added the conversion to give the Sharks a 6-0 lead. Shevington defended very well with Man of the match, Matt White leading the way and well supported by Craig Hogan and Andrew Moss. There was no further score in the half to leave Shevington with a 6-0 lead at half time.
Clock Face started the second half strongly and soon scored a converted try in the corner, but back came Shevington and after good pressure on the home sides line they added further tries from Joe Gallagher and Mark Ward to take a 14-6 lead. Clock came back with a converted try, and the game was now end to end with Neil Melling going close for the Sharks. But then came the fateful 90 secs to leave the Sharks with nothing to show for their efforts.
Coach Dave Parkinson took many positives from the game " The performance and build up to the game last week was terrible, and the lads have been told in training. " They have responded today with a very gutsy display and they played some very enterprising rugby at times, it's just a shame about the last couple of minutes"
